Living a Google-Free Digital Life: The Why and the How
**THIS VIDEO IS NOT SPONSORED IN ANY WAY. None of the links below are affiliate links.**
Over the past several years, I've been slowly moving away from Google Services. This includes Google Search, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Chrome, and more.
In this video, I share a little bit about why I decided to leave Google and where I've gone. I share ten Google services that make up 95% of my Google usage and talk about the best alternatives and what I'm personally using.
This is a little bit different than some of my other videos. But I've mentioned leaving Google in past videos and wanted to answer all the related questions I've been receiving.

    Hi Dann Thx so much! Loving your content and just implemented the meeting and the people part. Could I pick your brain for a customization I need on my side. Company is quite an important Information for me as well. I'd like to have a note for a company with all the meetings that I have conducted with the company and more information. Do you consider the properties category to be the right field for this or would you then create a separte MOC + Template and then also have the related company as a hierarchy in the meeting note similar to the attendees section in your meetings? Thx for your help!

    An incredibly useful video that I followed step by step to create my templates … I was getting overwhelmed if I should do them with YAML, Properties, curly Brackets alone , and followed some videos led to my uninstalling Templater altogether due to complexities involved. Thank you for your pace and clarity in teaching really helpful. Next I will do daily notes Template. Then hopefully I’ll actually start taking notes. The fact I’m not after putting so many hours into this is driving me crazy!

    Hi Dan. There’s a massive amount of Obsidian content out there, but I like how you are teaching Obsidian as a system and a way of thinking. Observing your use of the command pallet was especially eye opening. I don’t like using the mouse so moving files in this way is going to be a nice productivity boost. I’m also excited to delve into templating. I already capture a daily note, but templating for consistency will help my brain to be more organized and methodical. Excited to learn more. Keep up the great work and for sharing your knowledge.

    Great video but there is a big flaw. When you click Yesterday or Tomorrow and the note is not created then it will create a backlink from todays (the day you clicked it) currents date. So essentially if the pages are not already created when you click Yesterday or Tomorrow those pages links will not be working properly.

    As always, there is no "one-size-fits-all" answer to non-disclosure agreements. I'm not here to give legal advice, but as someone who works in animation, where the majority of the creative work MUST BE DONE before approaching potential investors, at that point, we're discussing tangible, copyrighted materials such as a script (literary work), character designs (artwork), and actual intellectual property. If an investor doesn't want to protect the potential investment of already copyrighted materials by signing a NDA, they are acting in bad faith. There is no "trust me" when it comes to intellectual property. If you want me to trust you, then sign a NDA. lol I totally understand an investor's need to reduce legal liability, especially when unnecessary, but tangible copyrighted materials aren't just ideas at that point, they are created, copyrighted works. I would never ask an investor to sign a NDA over a treatment, production projections, or a business plan, because those are laid-out hypotheticals. But created works that have copyright ownership need to be protected in order to maintain a clean chain of title.

    Hey! Thank you for this tutorial. I have a few questions. 1. When I look at my graph view, I see several of these "<% tp.date.now("YYYY-MM-DD-dddd", 1) %>". It looks really messy. What can I do about it? When I click on them, it opens a folder in "timestamps". 2. Can you say more about "+ Add Property? What can we do with that? 3. Under "Notes" I see some code: <% tp.file.cursor() %>. Is that supposed to be visible in my new note? What purpose does it serve? I don't see code anywhere else in my new note. I don't think whatever it is supposed to do is working. 4. How can I switch out/add emoji's? Not as big a deal as the first two questions, but I would like to replace the thumbs down emoji with something a little more uplifted and encouraging. Thank you for this tutorial!

    • @DannBerg
      @DannBerg Месяц назад

      Hello! Sorry it took me a little while to reply to this message. I'll do the best I can here in the comments. 1. The anything that starts with <% and ends with %> should only render like that in the template file. That's Templater Code, and it should render to actual dynamic data when you're USING that template to create a new file 2. Properties are just metadata that you can add to individual files. No need to worry about it if you don't have a specific metadata need 3. the tp.file.cursor() code tells Templater to put your cursor in that spot when it creates a new file using that template. In order for it to work, it needs to be enabled on the Templater plugin Settings page 4. To change the Emoji (or any other part of the template!) you can just edit the Template file. If you followed the tutorial, this will be the document with the word "template" in the file name. Any changes you make to that Template file will be used when using that template to create a new file. Hopefully you were able to follow all that. Happy building!

    "Treat it like a living knowledge base"... if you are fully atomic or nearly so, then make a line a he op and with a new time/date stamp add the new edited version... you can then see your editing stack very easily. If that is important to you... Also, some plugins will list those notes added/edited that week, for the weekly review.

    Thank you for this wonderful video. I use Obsidian to write about history. Keeping track of historical "people" is key. Your "meeting notes" video also helped me figure out how to (dataview) list all the historical events that include a specific individual. Very cool! I am wondering, though, how to tweak it so that the dataview filters ALL folders in the vault. Instead of taking only the files FROM, in your example, "Timestamps/Meetings" -- I want to all folders to be included. OR, even better, if I use no folders at all, how can I ask dataview to search the root directory of files?

    • @DannBerg
      @DannBerg Месяц назад

      Do you have access to ChatGPT? If so, you can just say "write me a Dataview table for Obsidian that shows [enter description here]" and it should spit out the code you need. This has sped up my own process SO MUCH. I used to write all my tables by hand, and now I offload much of that work to AI.
